The annual Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, better known as RodeoHouston, is an extravaganza that has been showcasing the Western experience since 1932. It’s the largest livestock and rodeo in the world and provides plenty of entertainment, educational experiences, livestock competition, shopping, and dining. Whether you enjoy carnival food like a bacon-wrapped pork belly or good old-fashioned southern fried chicken, it’s to be found at RodeoHouston. If you're looking for an exceptional cultural experience, The Museum of Fine Arts has over 70,000 works of art from all over the world, from the ancient past to the present. Their events calendar is full of performances, lectures, gallery tours, and educational opportunities. Another museum worth visiting is the Menil Collection, which grew from the personal art and object collections of John & Dominique de Menil.
The former home of Houston philanthropist and collector Ima Hogg is the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, located on 14 acres in the historic River Oaks area and surrounded by the Buffalo Bayou, which it was named after. Tour the many gardens reflecting various southern garden traditions and its exquisite collections of silver, ceramics, American furnishings, and paintings.
